CUTEK® has once again been chosen to help showcase a truly contemporary, heritage-listed attraction: Queensland’s Beenleigh Artisan Distillery.
When Australia’s oldest registered distillery built a new Visitor’s Centre in 2015, clear CUTEK® Extreme was applied to the feature exterior Ironbark cladding. The result was a distinctly modern look that embraced history, with the rich red wooden cladding reminiscent of rum barrels and vats.
The combination proved so successful that Distillery management has decided to go an extra step to maintain it. Rather than let the wood age naturally, they decided to recoat using CUTEK® Extreme with a Burnt Red CUTEK® Colortone.
As well as protecting the exterior and minimizing maintenance, Distillery General Manager John Mulraney says CUTEK® has proved “to showcase the intense color and bring out the grains in the wood’s finish”.
“We chose not to age the wood naturally as we felt that this would distract from the uniqueness of the award-winning building.”
After seeking the advice from the specialist CUTEK® team, a Burnt Red Colortone was added to CUTEK® Extreme for the maintenance recoat. After an initial clean of the outer cladding, the Burnt Red Colortoned oil was easily applied with brushes and rollers and, according to John, “bought back the original look of the wood to perfection”.
