‘The Barn’ embraces the details of wood. The Paul Uhlmann Architects (PUA) design team used Australian hardwood extensively in the interior and exterior design to reference the rural bushland setting.
Designed to match the Australian bush backdrop, CUTEK® Extreme with a Gray Mist CUTEK® Colortone was applied to the exterior Spotted Gum to expedite the weathered look. Clear CUTEK® Extreme will allow the exterior wood cladding to naturally gray over time, however this can be brought forward with the use a Smokey Gray or Gray Mist CUTEK® Colortone. Despite looking weathered, the wood is powerfully protected against moisture and will improve long-term dimensional stability.
The cathedral like interior design utilises Mixed Australian Hardwoods on the walls and ceilings with reclaimed hardwood employed for the vertical and horizontal beams. In line with the specific project requirements and given the internal environment, a bespoke oil formulation was developed by the CUTEK® Lab. Adding a Gray Mist Colortone creates unity between the different wood elements and helps to tie the project together. The natural color variances in color and grain are showcased, not hidden, adding depth and warmth to the home.
Our CUTEK® architect consultant has assisted the PUA team in many wood project designs. With a background in the wood and constructions industries, our Architectural Rep provides technical insight into the properties and characteristics of wood and can liaise with design teams to provide bespoke formulas and customer Colortones. For ‘The Barn’, our assistance went beyond the specification and design phase as we were asked on site to assist the painters with coating and application method enquiries. At CUTEK® we are committed to helping our customers from project design to completion.
